Useful Tips

Tuning of guitar:
The PhonTuner can be used to tune a guitar.
In the <instrument> menu, choose <guitar>
Upon choosing the guitar, six circles are marked on the spiral musical scale that corresponds to the six keys for a typical acoustic guitar tuning. The lowest string should be tuned to E, the E just below middle C. Most intervals between strings is a perfect fourth. The exception is between the fourth and fifth strings, which is a major third. The keys of subsequent strings are A, D, G, B and E respectively. The first and the 6th strings are exactly two octaves apart. A perfect fourth is 5/12 of an octave and so all but one of six marks is 5/12 of a circle apart, resulting in a total span of exactly two octaves.

For each string, you can adjust the peg, then plug and the string to vary the pitch. It is also possible to adjust the peg immediately after you plug the string. If the needle is to clockwise side of the target mark, that means the pitch is higher than required. You can reduce the pitch by tuning the peg to loosen the string a bit. Otherwise, you should tighten the string
